Night Lights on the whole evening?

Hi i was wondering if it would be a good idea to leave a small light on during the whole night in my display tank (small blue 6 watt energy saving light) My tank is situated in my lounge and when all the lights are of in my lounge it is extremly dark you realy cant see a thing . Should there not be some sort of light to simulate the moon Or am i realy being stupid

it's not necessary, but you can purchase moon lights if you like. Usually a cheapish blue LED light

It is not necessary, more for your personal enjoyment.

It has been noted that night lighting does sometimes encourage spawning in certain fish species

Any light will do. I think it was found that fish also stress less when there is some light still when the light goes off,the total darkenss can scare them and may be the cause of some fish jumping out our tanks

Those light strips will work. Might give too much light though.

I cheaper and better option would be to get one of those energy saving blue LED lights that fit into a normal globe socket. Just break the glass off and you have 4-6 LED's that will provide nice light thats not to strong

My power adaptop is behind my tank and equipment that is plugged in and in an on position gives red lights all night long. Was wandering if this is ok. Seems like it is from about response thanks.

I used something similar on my old FW tank,

run it with an ac adapter with different voltages - that way you can easily dim them

I have not put this into my tank yet as i havnt built it yet ,but i was looking at some extraction fans and stumbled into a computer shop and saw a nifty Crystal computer fan whch has 3 small blue led lights built into the side. also running on 12V this can kill 2 birds in one. giving moon light and heat extraction. The guy gave it to me for free(Bonus) but i think they are R25.00

That is cool, I just installed two fans in my hood with blue LED's on, works really well as a night light!
