I had lots of hermits (local green legged) in my DT, about 2 months ago I dits (dumped in the sump) all the big ones, and have had one lone ranger of a goldie for two months since. I think I have also lost a baby regal tang to hermits, they may be slow, but I have seen they hunt in groups and are good at stalking. I used to blame pistol shrimps for the dead fish
Ouch. That sucks, but it's interesting behaviour. I have seen hermits trying to get fish, but never seen one succeed. I only keep really tiny hermits in my display anyway though since they walk on corals and eat my snails. Annoying little buggers.

My hermit once decided it like the tase of my brain coral, and was happyly nipping away at it until i removed it, now that my also be considered a bit strange. But as for the fish i havent really had a prob with them touching my fish, i keep small ones and as baradhel said they have the extremely annoying habit of walking on corals and all my snails are gone, i just see shells, except for a few big turbos , who i presume are too big for them to attack

When I watched them, they worked like a pride of lions or a pack of wild dogs, I must lots of respect to them, they are indeed clever little buggers.

I don't think everyone should get rid of their hermits on my account, lots of mine were about the size of a R5 coin, a bit smaller than a golf ball, and they are only doing what they do naturally. The remaining in the DT, are all small ones, smaller than a 5c coin, and since no problems.
I don't hermits though can catch any pods etc, for that they are too slow.

Just think...if someone tries to eat you while you are sleeping..YOU WILL GET THE HELL UP AND SLAP THE %$#^ OUT OF THEM OR MAKE A BOLT AND GET OUTA THERE..Think it rarely happens and if it does happen that goby must be pretty tired or just stupid..

Well think of it this way, if you are in a hole and someone comes in through that whole blocking the entrance can you get out? I dont know how strong a firegoby would be, but I assume if the crab is big enough the goby cant escape even if it wants to. It's un natural for anything to just lie there and be killed.
